Poison’s Bret Michaels has gone from “Rock of Love” to “Rocket of Love.”
The New York Post reports that Michaels, currently experiencing an unexpected career renaissance after two successful seasons on VH1’s “Rock of Love,” has purchased a Bentley from disgraced former Sox pitcher Roger Clemens. Michaels, who hits Mohegan Sun July 29 and the Bank of America Pavilion Aug. 7, reportedly gushed about his new whip recently in Atlantic City; the Post suggests Rocket Roger sold the ride to help pay his legal bills.
What’s next? Will Flava Flav buy a $4 million diamond ring from Kobe Bryant? Score one for rock ’n’ roll.
Celtics [team stats]’ 17 soundtrack
The Celtics victory parade is Thursday. Chances are there will be a lot of standing around as folks wait for the Duck Boats to roll on by.
What people need is a championship soundtrack fit for the moment; one easily downloaded into iPods.
By now, the Dropkick Murphy’s “Shipping Up To Boston” is not only a given, but predictable. And because most songs by local punk veterans Gang Green rarely pass the 90-second mark and the Freeze’s “This is Boston, Not L.A.” (which lent its title to the famed 1982 local hardcore punk comp) clocks in at 25 seconds, we need to expand the set list.
In honor of the C’s 17th NBA title, here are some of the bands or artists that have contributed tolerable - and in some cases very good - songs titled “Seventeen”: the Sex Pistols, Rick James, Ladytron, Winger, Bobby Brown, the Stray Cats (“Sexy & 17,” just like the Cs!), Boyd Bennett & His Rockets, the Fontaine Sisters, Pizzicato Five and Forward Russia.
And if that set list doesn’t do the trick, there’s always ’80s new wave band Heaven 17, whose name fits the city’s mindset at the moment.
